Cooking going well: Omurice, Japanese recipe

It’s always interesting to see the difference between expectations and reality, and so it was today when I got cooking something new. (spoiler alert: the food was still delicious)

As the title above says, I cooked Omurice, which is a Japanese dish with omelet and rice (and other ingredients too, of course). You can check the whole recipe on this YouTube video just like I did. As you might expect, I didn’t make 4 portions, but one alone. Otherwise, I think I followed the instructions quite well for a first try.

So here is how it turned out:

Ignore my bad food photography skills :)))

Needless to say, I ate it all in a gulp (not literally) because it turned out really tasty, and the ketchup made everything easier to swallow, although I found it strange at first to combine rice with ketchup haha!

I admit I surprised myself with this recipe, simple as it may be, because I rarely have any initiative when it comes to cooking… especially when I think of all the dishes I have to clean in the aftermath…

Eating was fun… doing the dishes wasn’t…

Still, there are some simple things I want to modify to how I prepared the ingredients for the recipe:

  • more meat (like seriously, why did I even put so little meat inside???)
  • onion chopped into smaller bits
  • mushrooms left into larger bits

So this is it. Hungry yet? Don’t worry, you can give this recipe a try as well, and let me know how it turns out afterwards.

A delicious cooking fail

I’ve been wanting to try cooking cookies for over a month now, and never got around actually doing it. Until today.

YAY!

Well, half a yay really. There are good and a bad parts to my first attempt.

Negative aspects:

dt4sr5ow4aazrn5
Before and after being taken from the baking tray xD

  • the cookies crumbled when I took them from the baking trays
  • I had a lot of cleaning to do afterwards

Positive aspects:

  • it was a fun experience that I want to repeat and get right eventually
  • the cookie crumbs turned out really delicious ❤

If you want to know the recipe I used, here’s the link to the website I found. The only difference is that I didn’t use one ingredient on the list, namely stem ginger in syrup simply because I don’t know what that is exactly and where I can find it, hehe.

If you try out the recipe yourself, do let me know how it turned out! 😀

Learning a “new” recipe

My excitement knows no bounds at this moment. You’ll call me silly, but hear me out.

This morning was the first time I tried doing pancakes unsupervised, without anyone’s help. Cooking is still a great challenge for me, but out of need, I get over my fear and try it out, as carefully as I can, and start with what I find more simple.

It’s probably hilarious how I constantly check like 5 times the same step in a basic recipe just to make sure I’m not missing out something, and even then, the planning remains blurry in my mind and I am unsure whether what I’m doing is right or wrong.

Silly, right?

Still, I am really proud of what little I achieved so far.

Now, let me show you the tower of pancakes I made!

See, I didn’t lie when I said tower 🙂

The recipe, in case you are wondering, I found it here. I’m sorry to say, though, that the site is in romanian. Still, I’m sure the same recipe can be found in other sources if you search for american pancakes.

That’s it for now. I just wanted to share my excitement with the world, even if the world doesn’t care about my excitement. I’m just as proud whichever way! 😀

#coolprompts ‘Every revolution begins with breakfast’

The curtains were drawn so that no light passed through. Still, I got up in a jump and rushed to the kitchen. Whatever had possessed me didn’t seem to leave me alone for the following hour.

I reached for a cookie for my special-occasion-cookie-jar, then brought it to my mouth in a hurry before reaching for the fruit bowl. I grabbed a handful of grapes and swallowed them like I were drinking water. I then found some toffee laying about on the table, staring deliciously back at me. As I chewed on it for minutes, I opened the fridge and took out the following: eggs, bacon, cheese and an onion. Along with some seasoning of herbs and salt, I prepared them all in a frying pan. This whole time I munched on another toffee, and another, and another…

The huge omelette stood before me, appetizing and leaving me gawk in awe, saliva finding its way out my mouth. It didn’t last long, since I dived into it almost immediately, regardless of how much my tongue burned from the heat.

A continuous shrieking then began. I couldn’t remember when I had put all that water to boil in the kettle, but I decided to make some tea with it. Make it flavourful. Mint, cinnamon, orange peels, rose petals and weird tea leaves I cannot recall anymore.

Only then whatever possessed me left.

I looked around only to see it was pitch black outside. I checked my phone and was amazed to see it was barely 2 a.m. Therefore, with a full stomach, I went back to sleep.

Here’s to another fun #coolprompts writing challenge from Ray. Cheers! *raises imaginary beer*

Unexpected & random dialogue fragments

Anonymous 1: Why won’t you eat?

Anonymous 2: Because I don’t like the ingredients.

A1: What is there not to like about them?

A2: I simply don’t eat them.

Anonymous 3 (bored, rolling his eyes): He really doesn’t. Won’t even try.

A1: The salad, alright, I can understand. The sauces, barely. The food is tasteless without it, though.

A3: Will also get stuck in your throat without any sauce.

A1: And the parsley… alright, I don’t think it fits in a shaorma either. But the tomatoes…

A3: Besides, he won’t even try ketchup.

A2: I simply don’t like…

A3: You never tasted!

A1: How can you even be Romanian and not eat tomatoes with white cheese?

Anonymous 4: That’s a bit off topic…

A3: How can you be Romanian and not eat watermelon with bread?

A1: I eat watermelon! I especially like honey melon, though…

A4: Ah… love honey melon!

A1: But with bread… I tried, and I’d rather eat them separately. Honestly.

A3 (rolling his eyes again): …
